You will see the following warning message on the ERRORS page in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if, your net income exceeds that of your spouse or common-law partner and you both entered an amount in box 10 (Total benefit paid) on the Universal child care benefit (RC62) page of your respective returns:
You and your spouse both entered universal child care benefit (UCCB) payments in your returns. These amounts can only be reported by the spouse with the lower net income. Since you have the higher income, you need to remove the amount entered in box 10 in the RC62 page in your return and include it in box 10 in the RC62 page in your spouse’s return instead. However, if you and your spouse both received UCCB lump-sum payments in 2016, you need to report the UCCB payments received separately (in the RC62 pages in each of your returns), as well as print your returns and mail them to the CRA instead of filing with NETFILE. We apologize for the inconvenience. [Warning]
How do I fix this?
To clear the warning, delete the amount you entered in box 10 on the RC62 page of your return (because this amount can only be reported by the spouse with the lower income) and include it with the amount entered in box 10 on the RC62 page of your partner’s return. If both you and your spouse or common-law partner received UCCB lump-sum payments in 2016, you will not be able to NETFILE your return; the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requires that you print and mail-in your respective returns.
Note: You can enter your RC62 slip on the Quick Slip page under the QUICK ENTRY tab. Simply type "RC62" in the search field and either click the highlighted selection or press Enter to continue.
