You will see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if, when completing the Splitting your pension income section on the Your 2016 income page, both you and your spouse or common-law partner chose to be the Pensioner or the Pension Transferee:

You and your spouse can’t both choose to be the Pensioner or the Pension Transferee. One of you needs to be the Pensioner and the other needs to be the Pension Transferee. Please choose a different option in one of your returns. [error code: 338]

How do I fix this?

To correct the error, you or your partner must choose a different option. In order to split pension income, one of you must choose to be the Pensioner and the other needs to be the Pension Transferee.
