Warning Message: MB479_WARNING_CLAIM_6110_ONCE_PER_RESIDENCE

You will see the following warning message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if both you and your spouse or common-law partner claimed the Manitoba education property tax credit on your respective returns:

You and your spouse have both claimed the Manitoba education property tax credit on your returns. The Income Tax Act of Manitoba only allows one education property tax credit to be claimed per residence. If you and your spouse didn’t live in separate primary residences in 2016, you’ll need to delete the Manitoba education property tax credit from one of your returns. [Warning]

How do I fix this?

To clear the warning, you must delete the Manitoba education property tax credit from one of your returns. You can do this by clicking the OTHER icon on the PREPARE tab and de-selecting the credit’s checkbox in the OTHER DEDUCTIONS section.

Note: You and your spouse or common-law partner can both claim the Manitoba education property tax credit provided you told us that you lived in separate primary residences in 2016. You can update your or your spouse’s mailing address on the GET STARTED tab.
