You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if you're filing your return separately from your spouse or common-law partner and entered his or her pension income amount that exceeded the maximum amount of $2000.00:
Your spouse's or common-law partner's pension income amount can't be more than $2000.00. Please ensure you entered the correct amount from his/her 2016 return. [error code: 169]
How do I fix this?
To correct the error, enter the correct pension income amount from your spouse’s or common-law partner’s 2016 tax return. Amounts from your spouse’s or common-law partner’s 2016 income tax return are needed if you are filing your returns separately. Enter the pension income amount from his or her return on the Amounts from {Spouse’s} 2016 return page under the OTHER icon on the PREPARE tab of your return.
Note: The maximum pension income amount that can be claimed is $2000.00 if your spouse or common-law partner reported eligible pension, superannuation, or annuity payments on their return.
