You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if, you entered an amount in box 17 that exceeds the amount you entered box 16 on form T4A-RCA: Statement of Distributions from a Retirement Compensation Agreement (RCA):
The distributions eligible for pension income splitting (box 17) can’t be higher than the distributions (box 16). Make sure you entered the amount shown on the T4A-RCA slip correctly. [error code: 164]
How do I fix this?
To correct the error, enter the correct amounts in box 16 (distributions) and box 17 (distributions eligible for pension income splitting) as shown on your T4A-RCA paper slip. The amount in box 17 cannot exceed the amount entered in box 16.
Note: To enter your T4A-RCA slip into the software, go to the QUICK ENTRY tab and click on the QUICK SLIP icon. Type "T4A-RCA" in the search field. Click the highlighted selection or press Enter to continue.
