Error Message 159: NEWCOMER_NETINCOME_SPOUSERESIDENT_REQUIRED

You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if, you moved to Canada during the year and are filing your tax return together with your spouse or common-law partner (a resident of Canada) and you did not enter the net income amount you earned while your spouse or common-law partner was living in Canada:

You need to enter the net income you earned while your spouse was living in Canada. If you had no income, enter 0. [error code: 159]

How do I fix this?

To correct the error, on your spouse’s or common-law partner’s Newcomers page, enter the net income amount you earned while your spouse or common-law partner was living in Canada. If you had no income for that duration, enter 0. You can find the Newcomers page under the OTHER icon of the PREPARE tab.

Note: You will only see this error if you're a newcomer and moved to Canada in 2016 but your spouse or common-law partner was a resident of Canada.
