Error Message 191: NEWCOMER_NETINCOME_NOTEQUALTO_RESIDENT_NONRESIDENT_INCOME

You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if, your spouse or common-law partner moved to Canada during the year and the amounts you entered for your net income while your partner was living in and outside of Canada don't match your net income for the year:

The total of the amounts you entered for your net income while your spouse was living in Canada and living outside Canada isn't the same as your net income (${1}). Please correct the amounts you entered. [error code: 191]

How do I fix this?

To correct the error, enter the correct amounts for your net income while your partner was living in Canada and outside Canada on the Newcomers page of your return. You can find the Newcomers page under the OTHER icon of the PREPARE tab.

Note: You'll only see this error if your spouse or common-law partner is a newcomer and moved to Canada in 2016 but you were a resident of Canada, and if you are filing your tax returns together.
