Error Message 163: SPOUSE_NETINCOME_NOTEQUALTO_RESIDENT_NONRESIDENT_INCOME

You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if, you moved to Canada during the year and the net income amounts you entered for your spouse or common-law partner (a Canadian resident) while you were living in and outside of Canada, don't match your partner’s net income for the year:

The total amounts you entered for your spouse's net income while you were living in Canada and living outside Canada don't equal the amount you entered for your spouse's net income (${1}). Please correct the amounts you entered. [error code: 163]

How do I fix this?

To correct the error, enter your spouse’s or common-law partner’s net income amounts correctly on the Amounts from {Spouse’s} 2016 return page. His or her net income amount for the year must match the net income amounts you enter for your partner while you were living in Canada and while living outside Canada. You can find the Amounts from {Spouse’s} 2016 return page under the OTHER icon of the PREPARE tab.

Note: You'll only see this error if you're a newcomer and moved to Canada in 2016 but your spouse or common-law partner was a resident of Canada, and if you're not filing your tax returns separately.
