You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if, when entering your T4: Statement of remuneration paid slip, the employer name you entered contained invalid characters:
You need to remove all special characters (&,!, etc.) in your entry and ensure you only include letters, numbers, hypens, apostrophes, periods, brackets, or underscores. Since this field is for informational purposes only, it doesn’t need to be an exact match. [error code: RQ167]
How do I fix this?
To correct the error, enter your employer’s name on the T4 slip using only the following characters:
- Letters
- Numbers
- Hyphens
- Apostrophes
- Periods
- Brackets
- Underscores
If your employer’s name contains special characters that are not listed above, do not enter these into the Employer’s name field on the T4 slip. This field is for informational purposes only, so the entry does not need to be an exact match.
Note: You can enter your T4 slip on the QUICK SLIP page under the QUICK ENTRY tab. Simply type "T4" in the search field then click the highlighted selection or press Enter to continue.
