You will see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if you have entered a commission income amount that exceeds the amount of employment income you entered on the T4: Statement of remuneration page:
Commission income can’t be higher than employment income. Make sure you entered the amount shown in box 42 on the T4 slip correctly. [error code: 165]
The employment income amount recorded in box 14 of your T4 slip contains the total amount of employment income earned from an employer, including salary and wages, bonuses, and commission income. Because commission income represents just one income category, this amount cannot exceed the total employment income amount shown in box 14 of your T4 slip.
How do I fix this?
To correct the error, enter the correct amount found in box 42 of your T4 slip into the designated field of the tax software.
Note: You can enter your T4 slip on the QUICK SLIP page under the QUICK ENTRY tab. Simply type "T4" in the search field and either click the highlighted selection or press Enter to continue.
