You will see the following warning message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if you entered an amount in box 16 of your T4 slip that is more than the maximum CPP annual contribution amount specified by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for the year:
CPP contributions can't exceed $2,544.30. Make sure you entered the amount shown in box 16 on the T4 slip correctly. [Warning]
How do I fix this?
To correct the error, enter the correct amount shown in box 16 of your T4 slip. If you received a T4 slip from your employer, you can enter your T4 slip on the QUICK SLIP page under the QUICK ENTRY tab. Simply type "T4" in the search field then click the highlighted selection or press Enter to continue.
Note: The maximum amount an employee can contribute to CPP for 2016 is $2,544.30.
