H&R Block’s tax software lets you choose the product that’s right for you, with no strings attached

If you’re a fan of our  DIY tax software, you’ll be happy to know that our industry-leading software is 100% free for Canadian families whose 2016 income was less than $25,000. We’ve even made our software better by adding some really great features like Quick Slip Entry, and this year, we’re offering an even more streamlined experience that’ll help you prepare and file your return faster than ever before!

Regardless of your tax situation, or the complexity of your return, our software will give you everything you need to prepare and file your return.

Having said that, we know that sometimes, a little extra peace of mind goes a long way. Whatever the reason, we also offer some pretty great for-purchase options that are loaded with additional features based on what you, our clients, have asked for over the years.

 

I plan on using your online tax software. What are my options?

Our online tax software has three different solutions for you to choose from: BASIC, ASSISTANCE, and PROTECTION. Click here to view a list of features that comes with each product.

BASIC

  • Price per return: $9.99 ($19.99 for a coupled return)*
  • Maximum number of returns at this product level: 4**

*If your family income is less than $25,000, you’ll be able to file your return(s) for FREE!

**Once you’ve used all 4 of your BASIC returns on your account, you’ll need to upgrade to the ASSISTANCE or PROTECTION product.

 

ASSISTANCE

  • Price per return: $14.99 ($29.99 for a coupled return)
  • Maximum number of returns at this product level: 8*

*Once you’ve used all 4 of your BASIC and ASSISTANCE returns on your account, you’ll need to upgrade to the PROTECTION product.

 

PROTECTION

  • Price per return: $24.99 ($49.99 for a coupled return)
  • Maximum number of returns at this product level: 20*

*You can only complete 20 returns per account using H&R Block’s tax software.

Important: If you started preparing your return(s) as a BASIC user and then upgraded to either the ASSISTANCE or PROTECTION product, your 4 returns will automatically be counted as 4 of your ASSISTANCE or PROTECTION returns unless they’ve already been filed. This is important to remember if you’re preparing an uncomplicated return (like a student’s return) and you want to save your paid returns for more complex tax situations.

We recommend that you complete and file your BASIC returns first if you haven’t yet started more complicated returns.

 

 

I started a BASIC return, but decided I’d like to upgrade

Upgrading your account to one of our other products is easy. Simply click the Upgrade Now button located in left-hand navigation panel at any time to upgrade to the ASSISTANCE or PROTECTION products.

Select which product you’d like to purchase from the available options. You’ll then be prompted to enter your payment information:

Once your payment has been processed, you’ll be directed to your purchase summary page that contains details about all the great products and services that you’ve purchased. Most importantly, we’ll send you a complete set of instructions to your email account explaining how to use everything you just bought!
