Error message 436: T1206_5589_MUST_BE_LESS_THAN_6834

You’ll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2016 tax software if, while completing the T1206: Tax on split income page, you indicated that the amount of other than eligible dividends that you received before July 1, 2016 was more than the amount of taxable dividends other than eligible dividends that you received from taxable Canadian corporations during the year:

On the T1206 page, the amount you entered for the taxable part of dividends other than eligible dividends that were purchased before July 1, 2016 can’t be more than the total taxable amount of dividends other than eligible dividends you received. Let’s take a moment to go back and correct this amount. [error code: 436]

How do I fix this?

To correct this error, return to the T1206 page in H&R Block’s tax software and double check the amount you entered in the field labelled, How much of the other than eligible dividends reported on the previous line was purchased before July 1, 2016?. Remember, this amount can’t be more than the taxable dividends other than eligible dividends received from Canadian corporations during the year.

Note: You can find the T1206 page under the PENSIONS PLANS AND INVESTMENTS icon of the PREPARE tab.
